    GPRS Communications Why is
    it so much better

At Link-Up Security we have steadily migrated away from radio and telephone communications to GPRS communications. There are some significant advantages to this.

    speed of communication.

With the new generation of GPRS units the time taken for a signal to reach the Link-Up systems is less that 2 seconds. This is a massive improvement compared with telephone's average of around 10-15 seconds. This time is just for the first signal to go through, after this all the following signals are transmitted more rapidly.

    Monthly costs

the monthly cost of R45 for a GPRS unit includes all data transmitted which makes it far cheaper than maintainting a telephone line and associated calls.

    Better Communication.

The new generation of GPRS units allow us to communicate with the alarm system to diagnose and repair faults. There is now even an android application which you can use to remotely contol the alarm system yourself.

  • Company History

From Humble Beginnings back in 1987

Link Up Security was started with a staff of two back in 1986 to provide for the security needs of Northern Kwazulu Natal and Southern Mpumalanga. Link up had its origins in Dundee when Andre van Niekerk and Chris Taylor pooled their resources, and trading from their homes in Dundee and Paulpietersburg began installing alarms systems manufactured by AMC in Cape Town (that's right - of the stainless steel cookware fame). Andre subsequently left for greener pastures and Link-Up quietly got itself underway.

from grass roots into a busy little enterprise

From these small beginnings the business grew and thanks to their policy of providing a backup service to clients second to none has continued to grow at an ever increasing pace. The first office was opened in Church St Vryheid in 1992 and at the same time a control centre was established to monitor the alarms - then a grand total of 95.
Two years later it became necessary to find bigger premises and the house at 220 Mark St in Vryheid was purchased. Two rooms were converted into the fortified control centre still in use today.

The next phase: a force to be reckoned with

At the beginning of 1996 the first armed reaction unit was established in Vryheid to provide clients with a fast and reliable response to their alarms. This proved to be such a success that it was followed at short intervals by a unit in Dundee and then in Piet Retief and now in Pongola. Link Up today is a professional security company specialising in the installation, monitoring, maintenance and response to electronic alarm systems. We have a staff of approximately 80 men and women in Dundee, Vryheid, Piet Retief and Newcastle dedicated to maintaining the standards on which the company was built. In today's world it is very easy to sell security - it is entirely a different ball game to keep those clients happy and Link Up is proud of their achievements in this field.
